Minutes of December 8, 2008

Selectmen present: Rick Hotchkiss, Cheryl Labadie, Bob Thayer

City Officials present: Al Henry, Tim Aho, Mary Hull

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm

Payroll and bills were accepted

Intent to cut for Signe Motter (M/L 4-011-000 and 4-011-001) was approved.

Tim Aho attended to fill Selectmen in on the latest school board meeting. The new MRHS building was voted down and a decision to renovate is in the works. The forecast for renovation of grades 9-12 is estimated between 9 and 20 million dollars. This does not include grades 7 and 8. They want administration to cut $1 million from the budget, they came up with around $860,000 to $1million dollars but are not elaborating on the details so as not to cause fear among employees. The school tax will not go down due to the fact that the expenses in this new teacher contract will not be paid in full for four years after which the building renovations will be started.

Al Henry put in PO for safety vests and SBA bottles, this was approved and signed.

Mary Hull said that citizens inquired about their escrow accounts and how to handle this due to the raise in taxes. Mary called the banks and the banks said they will pay the increase and deal with the customer themselves on the payback. The State law says that Selectmen may abate or waive interest on property taxes. Rick Hotchkiss made a motion to waive interest on property taxes until January 15th. Cheryl Labadie seconds this and it is passed as said.

Minutes from December 1, 2008 were approved.
